inspiring women industry internships
The inspiring women industry internships aimed to support Victorian women’s career choices in the industrial sector, through partnerships with government, industry and academia.
inspiring women industry internships industry information sheet
The program, delivered by veski with support from the Office of the Lead Scientist Victoria, provided organisations with talented higher degree students and was an alternative, cost effective solution for a research challenge or problem facing your business.
Female honours and masters students, and their university supervisors, come from STEM disciplines to partner with industry through short-term (4 month) focused research internships.
The internships were also supported by funding for SMEs from the Victorian Government.
Benefits
By hosting an inspiring women industry intern you could have solved a problem facing your organisation, or improve a process that could deliver increased profits and business performance.
The internships also provided a new pool of talented individuals from which you couold have recruited future employees. You may also have benefited from reduced pressures related to managing the expenses and paperwork associated with engaging a new industry intern.
Your industry intern would have benefited from the masterclass program covering: how to overcome barriers to successful career transition; a toolkit for transitioning to industry, and a facilitated discussion about what they have learnt, their workplace experiences, challenges and wins.
Program management
The industry internship program was managed by veski with the support of the Office of the Lead Scientist Victoria, industry and academic partners.
The industry internships were part of an overarching inspiring women program, which was supported by a highly experienced advisory group drawn from academia, government and industry.
veski worked closely with interns and hosting companies to coordinate the reporting, onboarding, promotion and scheduling of the master classes.
Program
- Regular masterclasses for interns
- Business provides on-site infrastructure, training and technology
- End of project report to be completed by the intern with business input.
Program costs and funding options
Victorian SMEs in the manufacturing and technology sectors may have been eligible to access funding through this initiative by the Victorian Government and veski.
