Female STEM students land at Luna Park for AIR4 Life

5 December

On 21 and 22 of November over 1300 female school students and 81 teachers descended on Luna Park for the inaugural AIR4 Life event - designed to inspire girls aged 10-16 with the aim to reduce the ‘gender gap’ in STEM studies, and to improve the education performance of girls.

AIR4 Life is an initiative of AIR4, which was created in 2018, funded the Federal Government (Defence, Science and Technology Group and RAAF). It is also sponsored by RMIT University, DSI and a number of industry partners.

Luna Park was transformed into a Science Park, with an amazing number of hands on experiments and experiences to be had.  This, coupled with the rides made for a very memorable experience for the student participants.

veski had provided assistance before the event to help recruit female university students from the NEW 2018 inspiring women STEM sidebyside Empowering You cohort as volunteers for the day.  veski staff members, Sally Roberts and Vaidehi Deosthali, also lent a hand to assist in engaging the school students in the various activities.

A group of female Mentors were posted to the 'Mentor Wheel' allowing for a one-on-one chat with a student on the Luna Park Ferris Wheel, where students could find out about different science careers and find inspiration from these trailblazing women in STEM.
