Adrienne E Clarke

Professor Emeritus

Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences (USA) and Foreign Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Professor Emeritus Clarke's major contributions as a biochemist have been in the field of self-incompatibility in plants, chemistry of complex carbohydrates and protection of plants from attack by insects and fungal pathogens. She is a founder of Hexima Ltd, an Australian company focused on control of fungal disease and agricultural biotechnology.  She is also a founder of Biosupplies Australia Pty Ltd, a specialty chemical company.

In 2014, Professor Emeritus Clarke's was appointed Companion of the Order of Australia. She served as Chairman of the CSIRO Board (1991-1996), Lieutenant Governor of Victoria (1997-2000) and Chancellor of La Trobe University (2011–2017).  Professor Emeritus Clarke has also served on the Boards of major public companies such as Woolworths Ltd, WMC Ltd, Alcoa of Australia, Fisher and Paykel Healthcare Ltd.

Professor Emeritus Clarke was the inaugural veski chair, 2003-2007.
