Assoc Prof Natalie Hannan recognised with two prestigious awards

Congratulations to inaugural veski inspiring women fellow Associate Professor Natalie Hannan, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Melbourne Medical School, Mercy Hospital for Women, on being awarded the 2019 Melbourne Medical School Strategic Grants for Outstanding Women, as well as the International Federation of Placenta Associations, Andrèe Gruslin Award for 2019.

The Melbourne Medical School Strategic Grants for Outstanding Women was launched in March 2019 and the scheme aims to assist talented female academics to negotiate some of the challenges they face in sustaining and building their careers with a view to facilitating their progression to senior academic positions. Associate Professor Natalie Hannan was one of two recipients of this inaugurral award.
Natalie is a 2018 veski inspiring women STEM sidebyside Leading the Way alumni for mid career women.
The Andrée Gruslin Award is offered every year to an outstanding female mid-career investigator in the field of placental or placental-related biology. The Award is named in honour of Dr. Andrée Gruslin, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and researcher. She spent her life researching placental health as a way of reducing risk from conditions such as preeclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction.
The award comprises of funding and an invitation to present a plenary lecture during the upcoming IFPA meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, September 10-13, 2019 and the lecture will be published as an article to the annual issue of “Trophoblast Research”.

The inspiring women STEM sidebyside program is an initiative to support women in the STEM industries that is led by veski and Monash University with the support of the British Consulate General Melbourne. This dynamic program is designed to empower women at different career stages with the skills, networks and mindset to develop and achieve their career goals within STEM industries.
