Australia Day Honours for veski supporters
veski congratulates all of the recipients of awards in the Australia Day 2015 Honours List, and we note a range of supporters of veski and contributors to science, innovation and research in Victoria who received honours on 26 January 2015.
Two Victorian researchers received the prestigious Companion (AC) in the General Division of the Order of Australia and both are connected with veski programs. Professor John Funder served as a member of the Judging Panel, Victorian Premier's Award for Health & Medical Research from 2004-2009, and Professor Brendan Crabb is the Director of the Macfarlane Burnet Institute for Medical Research and Public Health, which has previously hosted a veski innovation fellow.
The main recipients connected with veski:
- Professor John Funder AC for eminent service to medicine, particularly to cardiovascular endocrinology, as a renowned researcher, author and educator, to the development of academic health science centres, and to mental illness, obesity, and Indigenous eye-health programs.
- Professor Brendan Crabb AC for eminent service to medical science as a prominent researcher of infectious diseases, particularly malaria, and their impact on population health in developing nations, as an advocate, mentor and administrator, and through fostering medical research nationally and internationally.
- Professor Peter Ebeling AO for distinguished service to medicine in the field of bone health, through academic contributions and research initiatives in a range ofadministrative, executiveand professional roles.
- Mr David Buckingham AM for significant service to public administration, particularly Australia-Britain relations, to business, and to tertiary education.
- Dr Alexander Gosling AM for significant service to business through innovative support for research and development, and to the community.
Many of these individuals have served on selection panels for programs delivered by veski and have been key contributors to our activities and events over the past decade.
