Dr Jaclyn Pearson received 2014 Premier's Award for Health & Medical Research

Premier Denis Napthine presented the 2014 Premier's Award for Health & Medical Research at Government House on Monday, 2 June at the start of ASMR Medical Research Week.

Members of the veski family and veski alliance along with more than 200 leaders from the health and medical research communities were in attendance to celebrate as former Victoria Fellow Dr Jaclyn Pearson received the Premier's Award from Dr Napthine.

Dr Pearson from the University of Melbourne's Peter Doherty Institute, has investigated how certain types of E. coli cause life-threatening gastrointestinal disease in children.

In her response to receiving the award Dr Pearson spoke about the people who had inspired her throughout her career.

Three commendations for the Premier's Award were presented to Dr Peng Lei from the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, Dr Brett Manley from the University of Melbourne and Dr David Riglar from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research.

The event included the launch of a publication to mark the 20th year of the prestigious awards program, which is now delivered by veski on behalf of the Victorian Government.
