Victoria's leading scientists inspire students (& teachers)

More than 50 students from Neerim District, Mooroopna and Kyneton Secondary Colleges were among the first Victorians to meet the leading researchers awarded the 2014 Victoria Prize for Science & Innovation and Victoria Fellowships on Tuesday, 26 August 2014.
For the second consecutive year, as part of veski’s inspiring students (& teachers) program, students had the unique opportunity to ‘speed meet the scientist’ and ask questions about the leading researchers career, study missions and anything science prior to attending the announcement ceremony.
Students and teachers arrived at the Parliament of Victoria and convened in the historical Queens Hall, also the venue for the evening’s announcement event, and were briefed on the day’s activities. veski innovation fellow Professor Tiffany Walsh provided some helpful hints about creating an interesting and informative poster which students will create, in teams back at school to document their experience.
The room was buzzing with excitement during the interviews and all students, teachers and scientists were captivated by their conversations. Participants were then invited up on stage to share their experience with the group and the feedback that was received was extremely positive and awe inspiring.
Following this highly interactive session, students and teachers were invited to attend the official announcement of the 2014 Victoria Prize for Science & Innovation, which were awarded by the Minister for Innovation to Professor Frank Caruso in the physical sciences and Professor Ashley Bush in the life sciences, as well as the recipients of the 2014 Victoria Fellowships.
Students, teachers, prize and fellowship recipients, family, colleagues and representative of Victoria’s science, business and innovation communities celebrated the awards at the networking event which concluded the formalities for the evening.
