Dr Juerg von Kaenel, Associate Director IBM Research – Australia, led the veski conversation on Big Data - what the Victorian health and medical research system could look like.

Attendees included members of the veski connection, renowned Victorian scientists and clinicians, industry leaders and Victorian Government at the Tea Room, Melbourne Supper Club on Thursday, 10 September 2015.

During the evening the group discussed the current the way Victoria's health and medical research system uses data and what improvements could be made to the way data is collected, stored, managed and the implications of sharing it for the benefit of the Victorian public, health professionals and industry.

The night concluded with three key points to faciliate change; the importance of forming and managing partnerships accross Victorian's healthcare and medical services, the industry and the community to make an innovative healthcare system in Victoria. To set grand challenges for the healthcare system in Victoria based on collaborations and system components and to work on the issue of privacy relating to healthcare information which solutions such as creating a compelling policy spurred by the community.
