Lekhani Dasanayake
veski inspiring women industry intern
In July 2016, Mrs Lekhani Dasanayake was awarded a veski inspiring women industry internship over four months. She is working full-time and applying her civil engineering experience in Sri Lanka to support the ARRB Group, which provides research, consulting and information services to the road and transport industry from its base in Vermont South.
Lekhani, a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) student at Victoria University and BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering graduate from Wolverhampton University, is working on two projects.
She is developing a new laboratory test which can assess the fatigue cracking performance of bitumen and polymer modified binders in sprayed seals as a part of the Austroads project.
Lekhani is also reviewing, designing and testing the performance of foamed bitumen stabilised materials for new and rehabilitated pavements.
Lekhani, who has tested concrete at a residential development in Sri Lanka for an engineering and construction company, is keen to assess its properties in a different climate.
In addition to her studies, Lekhani has volunteered as a student ambassador at Victoria University.
veski inspiring women industry internships are managed by veski with the support of the Office of the Lead Scientist, industry and academic partners.
Working closely with the interns and their hosting companies, veski coordinates reporting, promotion and a masterclass series to underpin the veski inspiring women internships.
