Melbourne world’s most liveable city 5th year in a row

18 August

Melbourne, the home to many of our veski innovation fellows and their families, has been voted the world’s most liveable city for a fifth-straight year.

The annual Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index looks at 140 cities worldwide, and Melbourne topped the list once more. Melbourne secured perfect scores of 100 in healthcare, education and infrastructure, culture and environment, and sport.

“Melbourne has the best of everything and this title proves it. This is an achievement all Victorians can be proud of,” Premier Daniel Andrews said.

Melbourne is Australia’s fastest growing capital, and the only city in the world to win the coveted survey five times. Melbourne has consistently featured in the top five cities since the survey was established in 2002.

Victoria is the multicultural state, the education state, and a place where investors from all over the world want to do business. The survey results are proof Melbourne really does have the best of everything.

In the five years Melbourne has retained top spot, international visitation has increased by 8 per cent annually – that’s far higher than the national average.

The announcement will no doubt inspire more international researchers to consider making Melbourne their home as veski innovation fellows.
