Dr Maria Liaskos
Leading the Way participant
Senior Lecturer, Laboratory Head & veski inspiring women fellow
la Trobe University
Dr Maria Liaskos is a veski inspiring women fellow and Laboratory Head at La Trobe University. She is also the Deputy Director of the La Trobe Research Centre for Extracellular Vesicles. Her research focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions with particular focus on Helicobacter pylori and bacterial membrane vesicles.
Maria completed her PhD at The University of Melbourne and undertook postdoctoral studies at Monash University and at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research. Maria has been awarded multiple awards including the International Milstein Young investigator Award (2014), and a Victorian Young Tall Poppy Award (2016).

The inspiring women STEM sidebyside program is an initiative to support women in the STEM industries that is led by veski and Monash University with the support of the British Consulate General Melbourne. This dynamic program is designed to empower women at different career stages with the skills, networks and mindset to develop and achieve their career goals within STEM industries.
