Industry Session with Ernst & Young

23 September

Ernst & Young in partnership with veski will host a private luncheon and insightful debate with veski entrepreneur in residence, Dr David Mills who will address the audience on the topic of Who will fund the gap?

Energy security, climate change and green jobs are three key economic imperatives that clean energy is assisting with. For Australia this presents huge opportunities for exporting, inbound investment, partnering and other growth strategies. Against this is the backdrop of temporary fiscal stimulus as a result of the global financial crisis, and the realization that at some point we will return to business-as-usual.

Australia has made a commitment to implement large scale solar. However, the economics of these projects are challenging and experience suggests that the funding gap is considerable. Investment might need to come from overseas. Australia's attractiveness for clean energy investment might be lifted as a result of recent legislative reforms, or it might only be enough to maintain our current ranking given the diversity of financial incentives in other countries.

So how realistic is it that these projects will materialise and who will fund the gap?
