Getting on a board and networking for various situations
Workshop:
Date: Tuesday, 10 September 2019
Time: 12.30pm for 1.00pm start to 4.45pm
Venue: The Bowl, National Australia Bank
500 Bourke Street, Docklands
All Leading the Way stream participants will join Assoc. Prof Stella Clark AM for a half-day workshop on Getting on a board and networking for various situations. This session was proudly supported by venue partner National Australia Bank (NAB).
Being on a Board can be a positive step forward in your career as well as providing personal satisfaction in contributing to the governance operations of a worthwhile organisation. But how does one go about getting onto a Board and what does it really entail?
Of course networking is key to both finding potential Board positions and in being a valued Board member but many of us do not necessarily feel comfortable in some ‘networking’ situations.
In this workshop participants will gain an overview of why becoming a Director can be a good career move; what the roles and duties of Board Directors are; how to apply for a Board position. It is important to understand yourself and your personal traits, hence you will be asked to conduct a personal SWOT analysis and from this (and other ideas) come up with the opening paragraph for your Board resume. In addition, we will look at networking and how to be prepared and take advantage of various situations where you have an opportunity for some self promotion. To that end you will have a chance to practice a 30s ‘elevator pitch’ to get your message across.
We will also hear from a panel of experienced women Board members and networkers to provide more tips and answer your questions. Panellists will include Anna Burke AO, Dr Leonie Walsh and Natalie Collard.
Workshop content includes:
-
- Why Become a Board Member
-
- How do I become a Board Director
-
- What are the Roles and Duties
-
- Applying for Board Positions
-
- Networking for Various Situations
Prework:
