National Innovation System Review Extended

4 August

The delivery date of the much anticipated Green Paper of the National Innovation System Review by Dr Terry Cutler has been extended by one month to September 2008.

Dr Terry Cutler is an industry consultant and strategy advisor in the information and communications technology sector and principal of Cutler and Company. He has authored numerous influential reports on the digital economy and innovation and is currently the chair of the Review of the National Innovation System established by the Australian Government.

The Federal Government has extended the delivery date of his Green Paper until September and with the Victorian Government driving the push for a National Innovation Agenda, Dr. Cutler’s Review is set to attract widespread interest.

It’s believed more than 700 submissions have been made to the Review. The Review of the National Innovation System incorporates reviews of areas such as research and development tax concessions, the Cooperative Research Centres Program, the automotive and textiles, clothing and footwear industries, higher education and export programs.

veski representatives attended the Review consultation sessions in Victoria. The final White paper is now expected in December 2008.

ARC Discovery Future Fellowships

As part of the National Innovation System, veski has also submitted a response to the Federal Government’s Future Fellowships consultation process. The Rudd Government has announced it will invest in new ARC Discovery Future Fellowships to offer talented Australian and international mid-career researchers four-year fellowships of up to $140,000 a year. Future Fellowships will be targeted at researchers working in areas of national priority - such as renewable energy, manufacturing technologies, the sciences, medical research, and education.
