Breakfast serves up gold medal winning innovation

9 August

On Thursday, 2 August 2012, veski ceo Ms Julia Page joined more than 60 representatives of Victorian universities, businesses, not-for-profits and sporting organisations for the second RMIT Business Breakfast for 2012.

The Olympic-themed topic of the August breakfast was ‘Innovation in Business and Sport’ and presenter Mr Earl Eddings, CEO, Greencap Limited, and Director, Cricket Australia asked the question: "Are you a Gold Medallist in Innovation?".

Earl drew on his experience working with a range of organisations to show attendees how they could apply innovation lessons from sporting and business sectors within their own industry.

His tips on how to build an innovation culture, included:

  • Your ultimate goal should be to take you to uncontested market space
  • Leadership needs to come from the top – fuel the passion
  • Celebrate ideas
  • Foster autonomy
  • Encourage courage
  • Clearly define the challenge.

The event not only provided an opportunity for people to hear Earl’s thoughts on innovation, it also provided a chance for attendees to network and share ideas and updates.

veski continues to build creative linkages between representatives of the science, business and innovation communities by supporting activities such as the long-running RMIT Business Lecture Series, hosted in conjunction with veski and Ernst & Young.

The next RMIT Business Breakfast will be held on Tuesday 4 September with Mr Derek Young, RMIT Council, Chairman, Melbourne Theatre Company, Board SMS Management & Technology talking about Innovation in the Arts and Philanthropy for the Arts.
