Catalyst talks to Cowley about toxic sugar

On a recent episode of Catalyst on ABC TV veski innovation fellow Professor Michael Cowley FTSE explained why sugar is so toxic to our health.

Professor Cowley, a Director of the Monash Obesity and Diabetes Institute was joined by Professor Robert Lustig, a Paediatric Endocrinologist from University of California, San Francisco and science writer Gary Taubes.

He talk about the challenges facing society due to sugar and along with international colleagues discussed startling new findings in the area.

Host, Dr Maryanne Demasi: Experts are pointing to a new dietary villain that's making us fat and sick.

Gary Taubes: The obvious suspect at the moment is sugar.

Professor Robert Lustig: Sugar is driving all of the chronic metabolic diseases that we know about today.

Professor Michael Cowley: There is a myopic focus on reducing fat consumption at the expense of not considering what the sugar component is.
