veski provides in-kind support

22 August

veski board members and our innovation fellows are in demand on the Victorian speakers circuit.

Professor Adrienne Clarke AC, veski's chair and Laureate Professor at the University of Melbourne will be joined by the veski fellows in taking part in the 2004-2005 Alfred Deakin Innovation Lectures.

At the Lecture Series curtain raiser in Federation Square in July, Professor Clarke took part via satellite and spoke on the topic of the emerging themes of innovation. The full lecture program will resume in May 2005.

She was joined by Dr. Robert A. Eisenstein from the USA who is the president of the Santa Fe Institute, John Wynn Owen CB from the UK who is Director of the Nuffield Trust and Australian Evan Thornley, the co-founder and chairman of the Internet business LookSmart.

The highly popular lecture series was first staged in Melbourne as part of Victoria's Centenary of Federation Celebrations in 2001.

veski's inaugural innovation fellowship recipient Professor Andrew Holmes will take part in the RMIT Business Lecture Series in April 2005.

Professor Holmes was previously the Professor of Organic and Polymer Chemistry and Director of the Melville Laboratory for Polymer Synthesis at the University of Cambridge.

The Chemistry Department in Cambridge was recently ranked 5* (the top ranking) in the UK Research Assessment Exercise and 'Excellent' in teaching quality.

The relocation of the Holmes Research Group from Cambridge to Melbourne will therefore offer a substantial enhancement of the synthetic chemistry and multidisciplinary skill base in the State of Victoria.

The RMIT Business Lecture Series encourages people to focus on the need to innovate work practices, good governance, creative management, to work smarter and more creatively and to adopt new and emerging technologies.

Professor Holmes' experience and success in the commercialisation of his research sits well with the premise of the Business Lecture series. The series also looks at ways of developing programs to stop the exodus of intellectual capital from Victoria - a priority of veski.
