Dr Jane Ryan - veski board member

Dr Jane Ryan has many years of international experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries where she has managed research and development programs and held key roles in business development and alliance management. Overseas, Dr Ryan has worked at Roche and Columbia University in the US and with Peptech and Cambridge Antibody Technology in the UK. Upon returning to Australia, she worked with Peptech before joining Biota Holdings Ltd with senior roles in research and development, commercialisation, business development and alliance management. While at Biota she held numerous roles; most recently as Vice President, Product Development & Strategic Marketing, Jane oversaw the development of products for the treatment and prevention of rhinovirus-induced asthma exacerbations, influenza infection, bronchiolitis, Alzheimer’s disease, oncology and diabetes. Throughout her career, she has led many successful fundraising campaigns including the awarding of a US Government contract for $230m to develop a treatment for influenza. Jane was appointed to the veski board in 2013. She is also a member of the boards of Diabetes Australia - Victoria and BioSA and was formerly a board member of the Diabetes Vaccine Development Centre.

 

 

Dr Megan Baldwin - CEO/MD, Circadian Technologies Limited

Dr Megan Baldwin is CEO and Managing Director of Circadian Technologies Limited.  Dr Baldwin has over 19 years of experience focussing on preclinical and clinical development of therapies for cancer and eye diseases.  Dr Baldwin joined Circadian in 2008 and since then has held various positions, including Head of Preclinical Research & Development and Chief Executive Office of Opthea Pty Ltd, a 100% owned private subsidiary of Ciradian that is developing a novel treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in the Western world in people over 50 years of age.  Prior to joining Circadian, Dr Baldwin was employed at Genentech (now Roche) in San Francisco, USA.  Her experience included several years as a post-doctoral researcher in the group of leading investigator Prof. Napoleone Ferrara, before moving to Genentech’s commercial division and having responsibility for competitive intelligence activities.  In these roles, she developed extensive commercial and scientific knowledge in the field of drug development.  She holds a PhD in medicine from the University of Melbourne, having conducted her doctoral studies and the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and is a member of the Australian Institute for Company Directors.

 

Dr Seanna Davidson - Research Fellow, Systemic Governance Research Group, Monash Sustainability Institute, Monash University

Dr Seanna Davidson is a Research Fellow with the Systemic Governance Research Group at the Monash Sustainability Institute, Monash University.  Her work focuses on designing and delivering a “Learning Lab,” an emergent social technology process that uses systems thinking to identify and unfold complex social situations such as sustainability, climate change or water scarcity. Previously, her research has engaged with the transformations of systems, particularly those within a water context.  A geographer by training, her work draws across disciplines, to explore patterns and change within social spaces.  Prior to her role at Monash, Seanna worked with the Water Policy and Governance Group and the Institute for Social Innovation and Resilience at the University of Waterloo, Canada.  Her academic research is complemented by professional experience across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors and training in facilitation, process design, and deep democracy. Mentorship is an important passion for Seanna who managed a mentorship program for the Canadian Water Resources Association for several years. Insight from this work also led to a co-authored publication 'Mentorship, knowledge transmission and female professionals in Canadian water research and policy' published in Water Policy.

 

 

Ms Dominique Fisher - Non-Executive Chairman, Circadian; Principal and Executive Director, EC Strategies; Managing Director, Helix Digital; Executive Chairman & Managing Director, CareerLounge 

Ms Dominique Fisher was appointed a non-executive director of Circadian in September 2005. She became Chairman of the Board in the subsequent month and is a member of the Company’s Audit and Risk Committee. She has extensive business experience in the corporate area, including the commercialisation of new technologies. Ms Fisher is Principal and Executive Director of EC Strategies Pty Ltd, which advises local and offshore companies on technology strategies and major commercial transactions. She is Managing Director of Helix Digital Pty Ltd and is the Executive Chairman & Managing Director of CareerLounge Pty Ltd. Dominique is also a Non Executive Director of Australia Post and member of its HR Committee; member of the Assistant Minister for Education & Training, Senator Simon Birmingham's Vocational Education Training Ministerial Advisory Board and Committee Member Advisory Board veski (Women in Science). Her past appointments have included a non-executive director of Pacific Brands Limited and membership of its Audit and Risk Committee, Chairman of Sky Technologies Pty Ltd, Councillor of the Australia Council of the Arts, and Chairman of its Dance Board, Insurance Australia Group Limited (IAG), member of the Prostate Cancer Foundation Victoria, NRMA, the Malthouse Theatre, Sydney Opera House and member of the ICT Advisory Board, advising the Federal Government on key issues affecting the development of the information technology and communications sector.

 

Mr David Gould - Program Manager, Future Focus Group, Committee for Melbourne

Mr David Gould manages all aspects of the two year Future Focus Group business leadership program at the Committee for Melbourne, from  marketing and developing the program to  providing support to Future Focus Group project teams.  He is also in charge of developing the Future Focus Group Alumni Network and is Secretary to the Alumni Network Steering Group. David sits on the Board of Community Leadership Australia – the umbrella group for leadership programs - where he is also Secretary. He joined the Committee in 2008 and previously spent 26 years in education, teaching in schools and then universities in Melbourne, France and Japan. Prior to joining the Committee for Melbourne he was Assistant Director of Studies at the University of Melbourne’s Hawthorn English Language School.

 

Prof Marilys Guillemin - Associate Dean Learning and Teaching, Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences, University of Melbourne.

Prof Marilys Guillemin is Associate Dean Learning and Teaching in the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS), at the University of Melbourne. In her previous role as Associate Dean (Equity, Diversity and Staff Development) in MDHS, Marilys was responsible for leading the MDHS staff mentoring program and a number of other equity and diversity policies and initiatives in the faculty. The staff mentoring program has proved very successful and is now in its fifth year. Marilys is a sociologist of health and illness, and Professor in the Health Humanities and Social Sciences Unit, in the Centre for Health Equity, School of Population and Global Health at the University of Melbourne. She has conducted research and published widely in the areas of sociology of health, illness and technology, innovative research methodologies, research practice, narrative ethics, and ethical practice in research and in health care.
