veski focuses on design and ICT

22 August

Ensuring that Melbourne continues to be the leading centre for Australian design and innovation, veski is engaging in activities that place a focus on Design and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) throughout 2004-05.

This is in keeping with veski's principal objective and builds on our continuing success in the biotechnology arena. To enhance this focus, award-winning architect John Denton has been invited to join the veski Board.

In 1972 he founded Denton Corker Marshall with Bill Corker and Barrie Marshall. The firm has become one of the most significant and successful Australian-owned international design practices. In 1996 Denton, Corker and Marshall were made gold medallists by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.

On behalf of veski, Mr. Denton convened a Sub-committee of design professionals across the sector. The Sub-committee recommended that veski's initial focus should be on leveraging Victorian design excellence out into the world at large. By supporting the involvement of our outstanding Australian designers in international design events we are increasing the profile of Victorian design globally.

Furthermore, this ensures the skills and knowledge of these designers will be disseminated through education programs upon their return to Victoria.
