6 February

veski innovation fellow Dr Gareth Forde, along with co-inventor Michael Danquah (PhD student), have had a provisional patent filed by Monash Commercial on their chromatography adsorbent designed specifically for DNA purification. Dr Forde presented the work being done by his group in the Bio Engineering Laboratory (BEL) at the Nanomed Conference held in Newcastle Upon Tyne (UK) and also presented at the Bioscience Engineering Seminar Series (Dept Chemical Engineering) Cambridge University, both in June 2006.

Dr Forde was recently nominated for the Monash Postgraduate Association Supervisor of the Year Award for 2006, and his PhD student Michael Danquah did win the AusBiotech Student Excellence Award (Victoria) which enabled Michael to present his work at the AusBiotech 2006 National Conference. Dr Forde will present work on staged vaccine delivery using mesoporous silica (co-researchers Ms Jenny Ho, Dr Wei Zhu and Dr Huanting Wang) at the Royal Society of Chemistry's Materials Chemistry Conference to be held at UCL in July 2007.
