FAQ: Premier's Award for Health and Medical Research

Q.  I am Australian citizen / permanent resident of Australia.  Am I eligible to apply?

A.  Yes.


 Q  I am a New Zealand citizen.  Am I eligible to apply?

A.  Yes.



 Q. I am a PhD student in Victoria who has only completed one year of my studies, am I eligible?

A. No, to be eligible you must have completed two years of your PhD at the closing date for applications.


 Q. Some of my PhD was completed outside of Victoria, am I eligible to apply

A. If a PhD student or a postgraduate is based at an academic or research institute located within Victoria and carries out some research outside Victoria, they may be eligible for this award. For further clarification, please contact fellowships@veski.org.au


 Q. I am a part-time PhD student. Am I eligible to apply?

A. If you have completed the equivalent of a minimum of two years PhD candidature at the closing date for applications you are eligible to apply.


 Q. I received my PhD from a university outside of Victoria, am I eligible to apply?

A. No. You must be either a current PhD student (at least 24 months into candidature), resident and studying in Victoria, or a postgraduate who has completed a PhD course that included a major research project in a health or medical research topic at an academic or research institute located within Victoria.


 Q. I completed my PhD in Victoria, and now I am working overseas. Am I eligible to apply?

A. Yes, as long as you completed your PhD studies at a Victorian university and received Confirmation from the Victorian university advising the applicant that they have fulfilled all the requirements of a PhD between the dates 25 January 2015 and 25 January 2017.


 Q. If my application is successful, do I have to attend the ceremony?

A. Yes. The recipient and the highly commended individuals must attend the ceremony to receive their award in person.


 Q. I am a postdoctoral researcher residing outside of Victoria, and have been successful in my application. Am I liable for the cost of travel to Victoria to receive the Award?

A. Yes. Recipients and highly commended individuals are liable for the cost of returning to Victoria to receive their award.


 Q. Is the Head of Department during my PhD studies required to complete a referee report?

A. Yes.


 Q. The Head of Department during my PhD studies is no longer at the University.

A. If possible, contact the Head of Department during your PhD studies to complete a referee report. If they are not contactable, please provide another individual at the University who had knowledge of your PhD studies.


 Q. My PhD studies are in the area of public health, am I eligible to apply?

A. Yes. Applicants may be undertaking research in any field of health or medical research including public health, health services, basic, or clinical research.


 Q. My postdoctoral research is in the area of public health, am I eligible to apply?

A. Yes. Applicants may be undertaking research in any field of health or medical research including public health, health services, basic, or clinical research.


 Q. Should I have my citizenship or immigration documents legally certified?

A. Yes, unless the documents are in the form of a Visa Grant Notice from the Dept. of Immigration. Documents provided to prove citizenship or immigration status from the Dept. of Immigration will be verified by veski for authenticity via the VEVO service. Please ensure theinformation page of your passport is provided in your application to enable the undertaking of the VEVO authenticity check.


 Q. Should I have my copy of confirmation of enrolment for a PhD or my copy of the university’s letter formally advising me that I have fulfilled all the requirements of a PhD legally certified?

 Q.  Will a certified copy of my transcript or enrolment status suffice as evidence of confirmation of enrolment in a PhD?

A. Yes.


 Q.  When will I know the outcome of my application?

A.  Notification regarding the outcome of your application will be provided in March 2017.  Please check the veski PAHMR website page for updates regarding this.


 

Q.  Do I need to submit an image with my application?

A.  Yes.  The image supplied must be a professional headshot, at least 300dpi and 1MB.  This image will be used for media and communications of the award should your application be successful.


 

Q.  How will I know if all my referee reports have been submitted in order to make my aplication eligible?

A.  veski will notify applicants of any outstanding referee reports shortly after the 2.00pm deadline for submission of applications on 25 January 2017.  It is then the applicants responsibility to contact referees and request that they submit their reports by 5.00pm 25 January 2017.  Referee reports submitted after this time will not be considered.
