veski celebrates Oscars of Australian science

27 August

Known as the Oscars of Australian science; the Australian Museum hosted its eighth annual Eureka Prizes this week, handing out 16 awards to Australia's leading scientists and science communicators

veski chief executive officer Ms Julia L Page and veski chair Professor Snow Barlow were among those who attended the gathering of Australian science professionals in Sydney on Wednesday, 26 August 2015.

These prestigious awards are "the most comprehensive national science awards" presented for outstanding contributions to Australian science, international collaboration and rural innovation.

Our chair Professor Barlow was one of the small group of finalists for the Eureka Prizes, selected out of a high quality group of scientists for the CSIRO Eureka Prize category for Leadership in Science. His selection is a testament to his knowledge, hard work and dedication to the field.

The CSIRO Eureka Prize for Leadership in Science was awarded to Michelle Simmons, from the University of New South Wales, for work that has positioned Australia at the forefront of quantum computing. The caliber of the entrants and their research is a testament to the innovative science community we have in Australia.

Snow said he was “honoured to be included with these amazing women, and what better way to promote the cause for inspiring women than Michelle earning the accolade at #eureka15”.

veski congratulates all of the winners and finalists, and looks forward to seeing the results of their continued commitment to science and innovation in Australia.
