Peter Mac’s Prof Mark Dawson has been named the 2020 recipient of the McCulloch & Till Award from the International Society for Experimental Haematology – the first time an Australian has received the honour.

Established in 2004 in honour of Prof Ernest McCulloch and Prof James Till, two pioneers in the field of haematology – the study of blood and its components - this award recognises exceptional mid-career scientists from around the world.

At a special awards ceremony - celebrating science excellence in Victoria, the recipients of the prestigious Victoria Prize for Science and Innovation and the Victoria Fellowships were announced.

Victoria has a new secret weapon to fight the war on waste and improve manufacturing opportunities with the arrival of the 2019 veski innovation fellow Associate Professor Timothy Scott and his breakthrough 3D printing technology, developed in partnership with colleagues at the University of Michigan.

Dr Thushara Perera, a Research Fellow at the Bionics Institute who received a Victoria Fellowship in 2016 to visit Europe to further his research into Parkinsons Disease, became the recipient of an AMP Foundation's Tomorrow Fund on 28 November 2019. This is a highly prestigious award granted to only the very best of Australia’s young scientists, social innovators and educators. In 2019, only 37 individuals received grants from a pool of 1,633 applicants.

Inventor Associate Professor Timothy Scott, 2019 veski innovation fellow, is commercialising a new 3D printer and resins, with speed, strength and other possible advantages over current light-based approaches. Brent Balinski spoke to Scott about the possibilities of volumetric production.

Principal Investigator and veski innovation fellow Professor Richard Sandberg and Co-Investigator Yaomin Zhao have been awarded an INCITE project through the US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science, who provide a portfolio of national high-performance computing facilities housing some of the world’s most advanced supercomputers.
